The MET Gala 2018 theme is…

CATHOLIC IMAGINATION. Well, the title of the Costume Institute‘s Spring exhibition is  “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” So the MET Gala held on the first Moday of May and to be hosted by Rihanna, Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney will follow this idea.

The exhibition will show – besides religious themed items from the Met’s collection and 150 garments from famous designers that display Catholicism “homage” – ecclesiastical clothing borrowed from the Vatican. It’ll be over three locations: the Met’s Costume Center, the medieval galleries and at the Met Cloisters.

The New York Times claims the exhibition will be the Costume Institute’s largest exhibition to date. Of course, it’s expected to raise some brows. “We know it could be controversial for right wing or conservative Catholics and for liberal Catholics,” curator Andrew Bolton said.

We can expect to see the likes of John Galliano, Jean Paul Gaultier Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior’s creations parade down the MET Gala’s carpet in their best Catholic inspired pieces. Are you excited for it?

Star Wars x Rag & Bone

Movie & music merch is a sure hit, it has been for years. Star Wars merch is a particularly profitable share of that, but it may not always be a fashionable deal. Enters Rag & Bone. The brand is making the case for fashionable merch and we’re sure this is bound to be a success.

“Our approach was really to re-imagine some of our favorite Rag & Bone pieces while taking influence from some of our most memorable moments of past and present Star Wars films.”  says Marcus Wainwright, Rag & Bone’s CEO and designer. “I have always been a huge fan of Star Wars and it has been awesome to create a collection which coincides not only with the launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but also with the 40th anniversary of the franchise.”

The movies reference comes very clearly through the silhouette of two X-wings in some T-shirts or in design elements from Stormtrooper uniforms in other pieces, but not in a traditional merchandising form. It’s actually something wearable and stylish, a “Modern Jedi” as Marcus himself said. The prices will range from $95 to $1,295. Among the collection there’ll be an Obi-Wan–inspired hoodie, Ellis Force inspired boots for the ladies and RB1 Force high-top sneakers for men.

The launch will be gradually in select Rag & Bone stores and on their website, with select pieces available the Disney merch online store starting Dec. 1.

The collection comes along with Rag & Bone’s support for Lucasfilm and Disney’s Force 4 Fashion initiative, a charity program created to empower and improve the lives of children around the world.

And the winner of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund is…

Telfar! Telfar Clemens is the talented designer behind the brand that came up with two of the most quirky and cool collabs of the year: they partnered with White Castle  – yes, the fast-food chain – on the “LeFrak” collection, that consisted of an eight-piece unisex capsule that pays homage to the huge apartment complex where the designer lived his whole life. The collection features hoodies, t-shirts and hats displaying Telfar and White Castle’s logos. The prices range between $60 and $220, and the mostly sold out collection can be purchased via his website. For all items sold, White Castle will donate 100% of proceeds to the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Liberty and Justice fund that works in bailing out minors imprisoned on Rikers Island.

There’s also his collab with Century21 that consists of a flagship store inside the New York classic Century 21 department store. He has already unveiled the a t-shirt super-imposing his signature and the Century 21’s logo. His pop-up opened on November 2nd at the Century 21 in lower Manhattan (21 Dey Street).

He considers his label as being “democratic” and his looks are unisex, with a distinct street quality.

Congrats to Telfar for this amazing win and we cannot wait to see what he’s gonna pull off next! Telfar took the first place and the the top prize of $400,000. Chromat, by Becca McCharen-Tran, and Ahlem, by Ahlem Manai-Platt, won the runner-up prizes of $150,000 each.

Designer Julien Macdonald collaborated with one of the most famous fast food chains in the world (and almost surname sharing) McDonald’s.

The designer has created a bespoke burger box for their Signature Collection (featuring gourmet burgers). The design is “sumptuous” as McDonald’s calls it.
